“I want to become World Champion”. Joris Nieuwenhuis is a 20-year old Dutch incredibly talented rider. His specialty is cyclo-cross and he learned to ride on a BMX-bike. “I like the fast and technical cyclo-cross races, in road racing I am yet to discover my speciality. I like climbing, and I also enjoy riding on cobble stones while there’s a lot of wind. Maybe that’s because I’m from the Netherlands and used to bad weather.”

Before he made the move to Team Sunweb, Nieuwenhuis was part of the Rabobank Development Team from 2014 through to 2016. His biggest achievement so far was winning a World Cup in Cyclo-cross at Heusden-Zolder.

Joris learned a lot from his biggest inspirations Nico van Hest and Richard Groenendaal. “They are a great example for me in cyclo-cross, but also as people.” This Dutchman is most happy when he’s cycling through beautiful landscapes. “I really enjoy nature, be it close to my home or abroad.” Besides cycling Joris has learned business skills during his studies of Business & Sports. He also likes to spend time with his friends and relax.

Nieuwenhuis will combine a cyclo-cross focused race program with a selection of road races. “I want to develop myself as a cyclist, on and off road. My first goal this season is the World Championships Cyclo-cross in Luxembourg. I’m looking forward to 2017!”
